Hugo Miravalles E-916 and María José Perdomo V-916 were representing volare tarifawindsurfing.com team in the biggest race in Europe, celebrated annually in the town of Gruissan on the south of France since 20021000 windsurfers that start at the same time to make 40km in the Mediterranean sea, that’s the goal in the DEFI WIND.

From professionals to amateurs, woman and kids, all in the same race to make it until the end, no matters what time it takes or what gear they use.Finally after 2 years without wind in Grusissan, La Tramontana  made presence, letting us run 6 races. Hugo end up on the 18^th place overall and 3^rd in his category which took him to the podium with a big smile and very satisfied with his result, I finished 8^th place on senior female. The fisrt two days of race we had between 20 and 25 knots, so we were in the water since very early testing sails to make our choice for the race. The top was given every day around 10am and you could see everybody taking the gear to the shore even when it was 10ºC.

Hugo says “when you are in the shore, you can`t imagine that there is so many people but when you are in the start line, beginning to plain and you look back you see all that wall of sails and is just an amazing feeling, the same when you are doing the 1^st Jibe you get crossed with a lot of people because there is  still people leaving the start line  The night events like live concerts and movies were really nice and we enjoyed as much as we could since we were ending really tired after sailing 60 to 80 km races everyday The last 2 days the wind picked up to 40-45 knots so only around 300 persons did the race, among those  of course there we were.

The defi wind security team ask the people who weren’t use to these kind of conditions not to go out, but this pair of tarifeños (Asturian – Venezuelan) couldn’t let this chance go , having the experience in the strong levante we took our harnesses and went  straight out! Only to complete all the races is a big success but having the chance to bring a trophy home is just exceptional, it make you feel it was worth to drive both ways 3000km from Tarifa. Hugo says he feels very satisfied for compting with guys such as Anders Brignall  (beating him in one race) Pierre Mortefon (1^st place pro) Pascal Toselli (2^nd pro) Bieuzy Mauffret (3^rd pro) We will continue tranning to come back to the DEFI WIND next year and we recommend to all windsurfers to live this experience at least once in a lifetime!! Au revoir
